Lagos lawyer slumps and dies in while pleading case in Magistrate Court

Yesterday, the Igbosere Magistrate Court in Lagos was thrown in panic after a lawyer who has been identified only as ‘Chidi’ slumped and died while making a case for adjournment.


PUNCH reports that Chidi died moments after he fainted, before he could be taken to the hospital. According to sources, the lawyer arrived late for his case. His clients were arraigned for stealing meat and snail from the Southern Sun Hotel in Ikoyi, and so the lawyer asked that the magistrate Mrs F. M. Dalley adjourn the case to April 14, explaining that he had been held-up in traffic.

“While pleading with the magistrate for a change in the adjourned date because it was not convenient for him, he started coughing uncontrollably and gasping for breath,” a police prosecutor at the court told PUNCH. Next, the lawyer yelled in Igbo, “My heart, my heart,”,  and was rushed out of the

The corpse has been deposited in a morgue.
